Critics considered Sawicki's strong point his ability to convey the feelings and insights of real people through the expert use of line and tone without resorting to artificial devices. Lot 84: Paul Tamanian - Black and Carmel Totem Sculpture
Mixed media on aluminum. Measures 6' x 14 x 14. Born in New York, Paul Tamanian has lived in Tallahassee, Florida since receiving his degree in Interior Design from Florida State University. He came into ceramics relatively late in life, in his mid-thirties. After discovering clay, he rapidly gained basic skill and then began his technical innovations. From his first exhibition at a small gallery in the historic village of Havana, Florida in 1992, he has gone on to exhibit and sell works in prestigious galleries across the United States. Tamanian has been invited to show his works in the company of America’s foremost artists and craftsmen, including William Morris, Jun Kaneko and Richard Jolly. His works have been commissioned and acquired by noted private and corporate collectors nationally.
While Tamanian's shapes are extraordinarily appealing, they serve primarily as canvases for a captivating variety of finishes industrial fabric dyes, traditional glazes, automobile paints and odd assorted chemicals that alter texture and color, producing a constantly evolving collection of surfaces and styles. His constant experimentation has led to the development of his unique processes which display as beautifully in the home as they do out of doors.

Riera presented a solo exhibition in 2004 at the Galeria de Arte D’Museo in Caracas, Venezuela.
